Romantika Clematis

If a plant could wear velvet and moonlight, it would be Clematis ‘Romantika’. This deep, almost-black purple bloomer throws out massive, 4-6″ velvety flowers from midsummer through fall, standing in striking contrast against its bright green foliage. Unlike other clematis that fade into soft pastels, Romantika holds its intense color even in the heat, making it one of the richest-hued clematis available. Perfect for trellises, fences, or winding through shrubs, this vigorous, long-blooming climber adds gothic elegance and high drama wherever it grows.

Watering

Watering Needs:

Let dry between waterings
  • Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade; at least 6 hours of sunlight ensures best blooms.
  • Soil: Prefers rich, well-draining soil with consistent moisture.
  • Watering: Water regularly, especially in dry periods—deep watering encourages strong root growth.
  • Maintenance: This is a Group C clematisprune hard in early spring, cutting back to about 12 inches to encourage fresh, vigorous growth. View Pruning Instructions PDF >
  • Hardiness: Hardy to USDA zones 4-9, thriving through heat and cold alike.
  • Additional Tips: Provide a sturdy trellis or fence for support, and shade the roots with mulch or companion plants to keep them cool.
